Chocolate Movie Review

This film has got me thinking more and more about foriegn film. I was absolutely blown away by this movie the first time I saw it. The martial arts in this film are choreographed very well and pulled off surprisingly well by the young actress, Jeeja Yanin. As I watched this movie a second time, I did notice some holes in the choreography and there were some missed punches and obviously staged stunts, but the end product was quite impressive considering her age and skill level.

The story was unique, in that its about a girl with autism who learns how to fight souly by observation. Her mother, who used to be part of a gang, is now sick and needs money to help with the hospital bills. The young girl finds a book containing a list of people who owe her mom money from her days in the gang, and so she goes to collect using her new found martial art skills. The Gang boss doesn’t like this too much and chaos follows.

As far as the dialog, there wasnt too much to get lost into while reading the subtitles since this entire film is in Thai except for the occasional scene between 2 different gangs where they speak in English. All in all I think this film was one of the better martial arts films I have seen. Not surprising since it was directed by Prachya Pinkaew, who did Ong-Bak back in 2003

We rate this film a category 4 storm with heavy action

Ninja Assassin Movie Review

Ninja Assassin is not the kind of movie you should see if you’re looking for a good ‘film’. This movie is based purely on entertainment, and while it was more predictable than a calender, I still have to say I was thoroughly entertained with the fight scenes and the dipiction of the ninjas. The CGI was well done, and the story moved at a good pase. You could tell, however, that they were TRYING to throw you off, but unlike a true NINJA they never acomplished the element of surprise.

As far as acting, Rain delivered a solid performance as Raizo. He wont win any awards for this one, but def. carried himself well.

Ninja Assassin is a Category 3 storm based on it’s entertainment value. The predictability really slowed this one down.
